When is Zhonghe Festival?

March 4, 2022. This festival is observed on the first day of the second month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which means that sometimes it’s observed in February and sometimes in March on the Gregorian calendar.

What is Zhonghe Festival?

The “Dragon Raising its Head” is a reflection of the ancient Chinese farming culture for the season, marking the beginning of spring cultivation, when Yang energy(阳气) comes out from the ground, thunder starts to move, rain increases, and the temperature rises. Since ancient times, people have also taken it as a day to pray for good fortune and good luck.

  • In ancient times, people used to fill green pockets with various kinds of grain and melon seeds and give them to each other.
  • Sun cake eating was most popular in the early Qing Dynasty.
