Holi for the year 2022 is celebrated/ observed on sundown of Thursday, March 17th ending at sundown on Friday, March 18th.

What is Holi?

Holi is a popular Hindu festival which is also called as – the ‘festival of spring’, the ‘festival of colours’, and the ‘festival of love’. The festival of Holi signifies the triumph of good over evil. The festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring and the end of winter. This festival also celebrates the beginning of a good spring harvest season.

  • Overall, the colors symbolize equality. Here is the significance of different colors:
    • Red – love & fertility
    • Green – life, new beginnings
    • Blue – symbolizes Krishna
    • Yellow – health, happiness, learning.
  • The religious origin centers around the legend of Holika (hence the name Holi). The sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, Holika was killed in a fire after she attempted to murder her nephew Prahlad, who prayed to the god Vishnu and was saved from the fire.
