For Students Going Abroad
- In order to ensure that all students are adequately covered overseas, and to further ensure that Vanderbilt can effectively aid students in the event of critical need, all students are required to carry Vanderbilt’s international health insurance: GeoBlue. Students who study abroad through the Global Education Office (GEO) are automatically enrolled. All other students traveling abroad will purchase the insurance as part of Vanderbilt’s Group Plan.
- For students studying or traveling abroad, the Student Health Insurance Plan provides worldwide Travel Assistance Services to you or your covered dependents through UnitedHealthcare Global Emergency Services. UnitedHealthcare Global is not travel or medical insurance but a service provider for emergency medical assistance services. Therefore, UHC Global Emergency Services does not in itself provide sufficient healthcare coverage while traveling abroad. International Security and Logistics Provider
- In addition to obtaining international health insurance and reviewing emergency services information, all students traveling abroad should enroll in Vanderbilt’s International Security and Logistics provider, International SOS, which is provided free to the Vanderbilt community. Students studying through GEO are automatically enrolled. The international security and logistics provider helps our students navigate logistical challenges while abroad, such as those resulting from political unrest or natural disasters.
