Plan for a Healthy College Transition

We understand that the transition to college can sometimes be challenging, and our goal is to help you manage this transition well. We encourage you to explore our resources available through the Student Care Network to proactively identify sources of support. Student Care Coordination is also available to help students navigate the Student Care Network.

The following recommendations are designed to help students successfully navigate the college transition process:

  • You should arrive to campus with an understanding of:
    • Your health insurance plan, including insurance card (students on the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) can find information at
    • Your allergies and associated reactions
    • Your medications, including doses (bring an adequate supply and/or refills that you can access while on campus)
    • How to use a thermometer (be sure to pack one)
  • If you are currently seeing a healthcare professional for medical and/or mental health concerns, consider discussing a plan for ongoing care, which may include shortterm services on campus and/or longterm care offcampus
  • We encourage you to contact Student Care Coordination before arriving to discuss your existing healthcare needs and for assistance in developing a plan for ongoing care
  • Connect with Student Access if you need to request housing or academic accommodations due to a health condition or disability
