The Role of the Resident Advisor

The Resident Adviser (RA) is a paraprofessional student staff member for the Office of Housing and Residential Education. RA’s assume responsibility for fostering an environment where all students feel supported in the pursuit of their academic and personal development.  RA’s work closely with our professional Area Coordinators, Head Residents, and faculty to create a premiere residential experience where students can learn and grow.  RA’s create educational and social programs, provide mentorship, and serve as a resource to students on their floors.  The position requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.  As student leaders, RA’s will actively work to incorporate Vanderbilt’s Leadership Excellence Philosophy (ACCESS) into their daily work.

The Role of the Head Resident

The Head Resident (HR) is a senior Resident Adviser for the Office of Housing and Residential Education. HR’s assume responsibility for fostering an environment where all students feel supported in the pursuit of their academic and personal development.  HR’s work closely with professional Area Coordinators and faculty to envision and create a premiere residential experience where students can learn and grow.  HR’s create educational and social programs, provide peer leadership to RA’s, and serve as a resource to students in their areas.  The position requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.  As student leaders, HR’s will actively work to incorporate Vanderbilt’s Leadership Excellence Philosophy (ACCESS) into their daily work.

Information Sessions

If you would like to learn more about the RA or HR positions, you can attend information session in our residential communities. Information session dates, times and locations will be posted closer to the opening of the 2015-2016 application period.

    Our staff selection process for undergraduate RA’s and HR’s for the 2014 – 2015 academic year has been concluded for this year. Applications for the 2015 – 2016 academic year will open in the fall of 2015.
