Break Housing

Spring Break (Spring 2024)

Dates:

  • Halls Close for Spring Break on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 9AM CST
  • Halls Open after Spring Break on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 9AM CDT

Registration:

All on-campus residents are eligible to register with housing to remain in their residence halls for any portion of Spring Break.  There are no additional charges to remain on campus during spring break.

Spring break registration opens on February 15, 2024 at 8AM CST in the Housing Portal under the Applications menu.  Students should register by March 6 at 5PM CST.

Winter Break (Fall 2023)

Dates:

  • Halls Close for Winter Break on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 9AM CST
  • Halls Open for the Spring 2024 Semester on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 9AM CST

Eligibility:

Any student residing on campus for the duration of the fall 2023 semester who plans to return for the spring 2024 semester is eligible to register to remain on campus for any portion of Winter Break. There are no additional charges to remain on campus during Winter Break.

The following students are not eligible to register to remain on campus for any portion of Winter Break, and must vacate their on-campus assignment no later than Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 9AM CST:

  • December 2023 graduates
  • Students taking a leave of absence for the spring 2024 semester
  • Students who withdraw from the university
  • Students participating in spring 2024 out-of-town internships
  • Students participating in spring 2024 study abroad programs

New spring 2024 on-campus residents, including students returning from fall 2023 study abroad, out-of-town internships, and leaves of absence, are not permitted to move in until Friday, January 5, 2024 at 8AM CST.

Registration:

Winter Break registration opens on December 1, 2023 at 8AM CST in the Housing Portal under the Applications menu.  Students should register by December 13, 2023 at 5PM CST.

All area desks will remain open throughout the break Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  All desks will be closed for university holidays (December 25 & January 1).

RAs will remain on duty throughout the break.  If you need assistance, please contact the the RA on duty for your area.  In the event of an emergency, please contact VUPD at 615-421-1911.

Winter Break Meal Assistance:

Meal plans will remain active throughout the break period, and normal meal swipes will be accepted when dining halls are open.

In observance of the university winter break, Campus Dining locations will be closed from Friday, December 22 through Tuesday, January 2.  Dining locations will open for the spring semester on Wednesday, January 3.  Eligible students with demonstrated financial need (determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships) will be contacted by Student Affairs with meal assistance information.

Thanksgiving Break (Fall 2023)

Dates:

  • Halls Close for Thanksgiving Break on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 9AM CST
  • Halls Open after Thanksgiving Break on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 9AM CST

Registration:

All on-campus residents are eligible to register with housing to remain in their residence halls for any portion of the Thanksgiving Break.  There are no additional charges to remain on campus during the Thanksgiving Break.

Thanksgiving Break registration opens on November 1, 2023 at 8AM CDT in the Housing Portal under the Applications menu.  Students should register by November 15, 2023 at 5PM CST.

Thanksgiving Break Meal Information:

Meal plans will remain active throughout the break period, and normal meal swipes will be accepted when dining halls are open.  Dining facility locations open during the break and hours of operation are noted below.

On Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, dining facilities will be closed.  Eligible students with demonstrated financial need (determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships) will be contacted by Student Affairs with meal assistance information.
