Break Housing

Dates:

  • Halls Close for Winter Break on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 9AM CST
  • Halls Open for the Spring 2023 Semester on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 9AM CST

Eligibility:

Any student residing on campus for the duration of the fall 2022 semester who plans to return for the spring 2023 semester is eligible to register to remain on campus for any portion of the Winter Break. There are no additional charges to remain on campus during the Winter Break.

The following students are not eligible to register to remain on campus for any portion of the Winter Break, and must vacate their on-campus assignment no later than Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 9AM CST:

  • December 2022 graduates
  • Students taking a leave of absence for the spring 2023 semester
  • Students who withdraw from the university
  • Students participating in spring 2023 out-of-town internships
  • Students participating in spring 2023 study abroad programs

New spring 2023 on-campus residents, including students returning from fall 2022 study abroad, out-of-town internships, and leaves of absence, are not permitted to move in until Friday, January 6, 2023 at 9AM CST.

Registration:

Winter Break registration opens on December 1, 2022 at 8AM CST in the Housing Portal under the Applications menu.  Students should register by December 15, 2022 at 5PM CST.

Dates:

  • Halls Close for Thanksgiving Break on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 9AM CST
  • Halls Open after Thanksgiving Break on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 9AM CST

Registration:

All on-campus residents are eligible to register with housing to remain in their residence halls for any portion of the Thanksgiving Break.  There are no additional charges to remain on campus during the Thanksgiving Break.

Thanksgiving Break registration opens on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 8AM CDT in the Housing Portal under the Applications menu.  Students should register by Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 5PM CST.

Thanksgiving Break Meal Information:

Meal plans will remain active throughout the break period, and normal meal swipes will be accepted when dining halls are open.  Dining facility locations open during the break and hours of operation are noted below.

On Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, dining facilities will be closed.  Eligible students with demonstrated financial need (determined by the Office Student Financial Aid and Scholarships) will be contacted by Student Affairs with information regarding meal assistance.

Sunday, November 27

  • Commons:  Open at 11am
  • E. Bronson Ingram:  Open at 11am
  • Rothschild:  Open at 4pm

Important Facilities Notices:

A power outage is scheduled to take place on the Commons during the November academic break during the below dates/times. Access to the residence hall will be turned off during the outage.

Once you leave the building for the day during the outage, you will not be able to re-enter the building until the power is turned back on at the indicated time. RAs will also not have the ability to provide you access to the building. The building will be without power, including lights, outlets, heat/air conditioning, elevators, and Wi-Fi.

On Monday and Tuesday, you will have swipe access to the Commons Center beginning at 7:30 a.m. You are welcome and encouraged to use this space as a resting place during the power outage.

Please prepare for the outage in advance by:

  • Removing all perishable food items from refrigerators in your building. Any perishable items left in the refrigerators will spoil.
  • Charge all devices during the evening hours leading up to the outage.
  • Plan to take any of your essential belongings (ex. medications, phone, computer, charger) with you when you leave the building.
  • If you are on campus, make arrangements to spend the outage period in another space on campus like the Commons Center.
