Lane Mitchell

Director of Marketing & Business Development, Café Femenino Coffee & Joe Van Gogh, Inc.

Lane has a dual role of leading creative, brand & marketing for coffee roaster/retailer Joe Van Gogh, Inc. and leading teams toward national business development for specialty coffee brands Joe Van Gogh coffee and Café Femenino Coffee with the goal of creating a thriving and equitable coffee supply chain.

Among her accomplishments is launching and commercializing Café Femenino Coffee, a purpose-driven, Fair Trade, organic specialty coffee with women’s entrepreneurship at its core. Based on an innovative collaborative ethical sourcing model, the brand is disrupting the traditional coffee supply chain by providing direct compensation, leadership opportunities and land ownership rights to women coffee farmers. This ensures that women get their fair share, improving the quality of coffee and the quality of life for the millions of women at the heart of coffee.

Prior to joining Joe Van Gogh, she launched a national co-branded coffee with Grounds for Health, raising $10,000 to support vital healthcare projects for women coffee producers. This coffee was featured at the 2016 Specialty Coffee Association Expo and was a finalist for Best New Product at CoffeeFest.

Lane volunteers with the International Women’s Coffee Alliance, supporting marketing and development initiatives, and the Coffee Equity Lab at Vanderbilt University with a goal of creating meaningful and coordinated resolutions to equity challenges for all participants in the coffee supply chain. She has twice spoken at the Specialty Coffee Association Expo on social sustainability and gender equality in coffee and is regularly a presenter at Coffee Fest and other industry events on gender issues.

Lane also serves as an independent Advisory Council Member to the Business School at The George Washington University, where she provides guidance on the school’s undergraduate, graduate and professional curriculum.
