On Friday 3/31 the Owen Tech Club hosted its first ever annual Technology & Innovation Symposium at the Wond’ry. In the morning, four teams presented their results of the cross-disciplinary case competition sponsored by Lyft and Brookdale Senior Living, an event which was co-hosted by the VMA, Tech Club, and Healthcare Club. Congratulations to the winning team Anna Chandler, Hanui Moon, Maggie Pan, Thayer Rosenberg, and Zach Bucuvalas! They won $200 of Lyft credit each, and will get to work with Lyft and Brookdale on implementing their suggestions.

The case competition was followed by a series of four speakers in the Tech and Innovation space. Chuck Bryant spoke about how TechFed Nashville supports the local grassroots tech and innovation movement, and encouraged business students to participate in the many events that are taking place year-round. Brian Nock shared the story of Google Fiber and its immense potential for creating jobs and value in cities like Nashville. Giles Ward took us on a journey to the world of blockchain technology and explained how Hashed Health is supporting the healthcare industry in developing solutions to leverage the potential of this groundbreaking technology. Chris Boyd from the Nashville-based Fintech startup Built concluded the round with invaluable insights into how a startup company can build a culture of innovation and passion for the business across functions.
