Spring 2022 Housing Application Process

The Undergraduate Residential Requirement

Vanderbilt University is a residential campus, and the residential experience is understood to be an integral part of a Vanderbilt education.  This commitment to residential education is clearly expressed in the University’s residential requirement:

“All unmarried undergraduate students must live in residence halls on campus during the academic year, May session, and summer sessions.  Authorization to live elsewhere is granted at the discretion of the Director of Housing Assignments in special situations or when space is unavailable on campus.”  (Student Handbook)

First-Year Students

SPRING HOUSING APPLICATION

Newly admitted and first-year students returning from a leave of absence are required to submit the First-Year Student Spring Housing Application in the Housing Portal between November 1, 2021 and November 30, 2021.  Currently enrolled first-year students residing on campus do NOT need to apply for spring 2022 housing.

In order to submit your application, you will need your VUnetID and password to log into the Housing Portal.  You will be prompted to complete a secondary authentication via DUO. The DUO enrollment guide can be found here.  In addition, newly admitted students should also submit a photo to Card Services in order to claim their digital and physical ID card.

Students will receive their housing assignment via email no later than December 23, 2021.  Late applicants may not receive their housing assignment until early January 2022.

Questions regarding first-year student spring housing assignments should be directed to Ashley Ladyman, Associate Director of Housing Assignments, at ashley.m.ladyman@vanderbilt.edu.

REQUESTS FOR REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

Any spring 2022 housing applicant seeking a reasonable accommodation due to a documented medical, psychological or disability impairment should submit a request to Student Access (SA) via the Commodore Access Portal.  Additional information can be found here.  All requests for reasonable accommodation for spring 2022 housing must be submitted by November 30, 2021.

Upper-Division Students

ELIGIBILTY

All students who are not currently enrolled in fall 2021 courses at Vanderbilt and are eligible to return for the spring 2022 semester, including study abroad participants, out-of-town internship participants, and students on a leave of absence, are required to complete the Spring Housing Application.  Recently admitted or reinstated students are also required to submit an application.

The following continuing students do NOT need to submit a Spring Housing Application:

  1. Currently enrolled students residing on campus
  2. Currently enrolled students with off-campus authorization

Currently enrolled students who are interested in applying to the McGill Project or McTyeire International House are welcome to do so.  Additional information is available here.

Students residing off campus for the fall 2021 semester who wish to return to on-campus housing for the spring 2022 semester should contact Josh Miller, Coordinator for Housing Assignments, at joshua.p.miller@vanderbilt.edu, to be provided with access to the application.

SPRING HOUSING APPLICATION

The Spring Housing Application will be available in the Housing Portal from November 1, 2021 – November 30, 2021.

Students are able to indicate building preferences and make roommate requests on the application.  A maximum of three (3) roommate requests can be made, and only mutual requests will be considered.  Roommate requests are not guaranteed.

Students will receive their spring housing assignment via email no later than December 23, 2021.

LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES (LLC’S)

Students who would like to be considered for admission to the McGill Project and/or the McTyeire International House must complete the Spring Housing Application and submit a McGill and/or McTyeire Application.  Applications are available here beginning November 1, 2021. McGill and McTyeire applications should be submitted by November 15, 2021 at 4:30PM CST.

RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE ASSIGNMENT PRIORITY

Returning students who took occupancy of a space in a residential college during the fall 2020 semester or earlier will have priority for assignment to available residential college spaces.

After students with returner priority are considered, available residential college spaces will be assigned utilizing a seniority-based random selection.

Students who are first time residents of a residential college during the 2021-2022 academic year will not have returner priority to their college for the 2022-2023 academic year.

All students assigned to a residential college for the spring 2022 semester will be charged the Residential College Experience Fee.  This fee is $382 and helps to support the programmatic initiatives within each college.

REQUESTS TO RESIDE IN A GREEK HOUSE

Students who are requesting to reside in their Greek house must submit the Spring Housing Application and contact Kristin Torrey, Director of Greek Life, at kristin.torrey@vanderbilt.edu for permission to reside in available Greek house vacancies.

REQUESTS FOR OFF-CAMPUS AUTHORIZATION

The following returning students are eligible to request off-campus authorization for the spring 2022 semester after submission of the Spring Housing Application.

  • Students scheduled to graduate in May 2022
  • Returning students who received off-campus authorization and resided off campus during the spring 2021 semester

NOTE:  Fall 2021 on-campus residents are not eligible to request off-campus authorization for the spring 2022 semester.

For eligible students, the Spring Off-Campus Housing Application will be available in the Housing Portal upon submission of the general Spring Housing Application.  The Spring Off-Campus Application will be considered prior to the general Spring Housing Application.  Continuing students, which includes those currently residing on campus, are not eligible to request off-campus authorization for the spring 2022 semester.

In order to be considered for off-campus authorization, students must complete both the Spring Housing Application and the Spring Off-Campus Housing Application.  Failure to submit both applications will result in the cancelation of the Spring Off-Campus Application.

Please note that requests for off-campus authorization may be denied.  Off-campus authorization decisions will be announced via email on or before December 10, 2021.  If a student is granted off-campus authorization but would rather reside in on-campus housing, they can decline their off-campus authorization until December 17, 2021.  Students who have been denied off-campus authorization will be assigned to available spaces on campus.  Students seeking off-campus authorization should not make off-campus arrangements (placing a deposit, signing a lease, etc.) until they have received formal authorization to do so from the Director of Housing Assignments.
