BECOME A RESIDENT ADVISER

The Resident Adviser (RA) is a paraprofessional student staff member for the Office of Housing and Residential Education. RAs assume responsibility for fostering an environment where all students feel supported in the pursuit of their academic and personal development. RAs work closely with our professional Area Coordinators, Head Residents, and faculty to create a premiere residential experience where students can learn and grow. RAs accomplish this through our hallmark technique:  Meaningful Conversations.  RAs will engage in meaningful conversations with their residents, which are intentional opportunities to not only get to know their residents, but also develop specific experiences and activities they can work with their teams to create for their residential populations. RAs create educational and social programs, provide mentorship, and serve as a resource to students on their floors. The position requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.

Requirements:

–Full-time student at Vanderbilt with a minimum course load of 12 credits for undergraduate students and nine hours for graduate students.

–Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

–Maintain good standing with Vanderbilt University

–Attendance at all training sessions and break dates

–Must have a U.S. bank account to set up direct deposit

Mandatory Dates:

–Fall Training for RAs:  August 6 – 20, 2019

–Staff Meetings with ACs:  Tuesdays between 7PM and 9PM

–Thanksgiving Break:  Must stay through 12PM on November 23, 2019

–Winter Break:  Must stay through 12PM on December 15, 2019

–January Training:  January 2 – 4, 2020

–RA Interview Weekend:  February 7 – 8, 2020

–Spring Break:  Must stay through 12PM on February 29, 2020

–Spring Closing:  Must stay through 12PM on May 10, 2020

Compensation:

–Single, occupancy space

–$235 per month stipend for nine months paid at the end of the month

Monday, November 5 in Alumni Hall 201 12p.m. to 1p.m.

Tuesday, November 6 in Kissam Center MPR from 12p.m. to 1p.m.

Tuesday, November 13 in Commons Center 235 from 7p.m. to 8p.m.

Wednesday, November 14 in Sarratt 216/220 from 7p.m. to 8p.m.

Tuesday, November 27 in Sarratt 216/220 from 6p.m. to 7p.m.

Thursday, November 29 in Commons Center 237 from 7p.m. to 8p.m.

Monday, December 3 in Kissam Center MPR from 6p.m. to 7p.m.

Wednesday, December 5 in Alumni Hall 201 from 6p.m. to 7p.m.

 

BECOME AN HEAD RESIDENT

The Head Resident (HR) is a senior Resident Adviser for the Office of Housing and Residential Education. HRs assume responsibility for fostering an environment where all students feel supported in the pursuit of their academic and personal development.  HRs work closely with professional Area Coordinators, Graduate Area Coordinators and faculty to envision and create a premiere residential experience where students can learn and grow.  HRs create educational and social programs, provide peer leadership to RAs, and serve as a resource to students in their areas.  The position requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.

Requirements:

–Full-time student at Vanderbilt with a minimum course load of 12 credits for undergraduate students and nine hours for graduate students

–Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5

–Maintain good standing with Vanderbilt University

–No outside employment beyond the HR role

–Attendance at all training sessions and break dates

–At least one semester as a Resident Adviser at Vanderbilt University or similar institution

–Must have a U.S. bank account to set up direct deposit

–Fall Training for HRs:  August 4 – 20, 2019
