Summer Tutoring
Hey undergraduate scientists and mathematicians, come learn with us this summer!
In Summer 2025, Tutoring Services will again offer in person and online tutoring support during Summer Sessions 1 and 2 beginning Tuesday, June 3 and ending Friday, August 8. All Tutoring Services programs are free and open to all enrolled Vanderbilt students.
For Summer 2025, we invite you to consider our Tutor Match option, which allows you to set up regularly occurring, weekly sessions with a peer tutor for the full semester. Since summer sessions are only four weeks long, we will prioritize early Tutor Match requests with any of our Summer tutors as long as availability remains. We also love to host Pair-Appointment sessions where you and another student enrolled in the same summer class would like to meet with one of our tutors together to go over course content.
See our tutors’ bios here, look over our pair appointment policies, and then fill out the survey to request a Summer Tutor Match here. Registration for Tutor Match begins on Monday, May 12 and will continue as tutor availability allows.
If you have any questions, you can email Dr. Erickson.
Please Note: Summer Tutor Match sessions are in limited availability. We will accommodate as many as we can until space runs out. Registration requests for Tutor Match begin on Monday, May 12 and will continue as tutor availability allows.
To make a regular one-on-one appointment, please select the 1-on-1 schedule link on our sidebar.

Summer Tutor Match
WHY REQUEST A TUTOR MATCH?
As a student, requesting a Tutor Match gives you (or you and a fellow student in the same course) the opportunity to set regularly occurring, weekly sessions with a peer tutor for the full semester.
Tutor Matches provide 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 support. Students are matched with a tutor based on the courses students are enrolled in pending tutor availability. Students and tutors are expected to meet regularly over the course of the semester.

Appointment Policies for Summer 2025
Most Tutoring Services appointment policies remain the same over the summer, but below we highlight several notable changes of which you should be aware.
Your Appointments, Your Responsibilities
Responsibility to Arrive Promptly – Late Arrival Policy
Please arrive for or log into your tutoring session promptly. For in-person tutoring (when available), please let the person at the front desk know you are here upon your arrival.
For online tutoring, please log into the zoom session at the top of the hour so that the tutor knows you are available. If you anticipate being late to an online appointment, please send an email to your tutor (email in bio) and tutoring@vanderbilt.edu.
Our policy is to open appointments to walk-ins if the client has not arrived by 10 minutes after the appointment’s start time. We cannot guarantee reservations for students who arrive more than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time of their session. If you are more than 10 minutes late to your reserved online session, your tutor may have logged off and you may need to reach out to tutoring@vanderbilt.edu to see if your tutor is still available.
Those whose appointments are taken by a walk-in client will be subject to our Missed Appointment Policy.
1-on-1 Appointment Cancellation Policy
Our online scheduler makes cancelling (or modifying) appointments simple, which our online scheduler currently allows until shortly before an appointment’s start time.
As a courtesy to your fellow students and to your tutors, however, we ask that you cancel appointments at least 4 hours in advance whenever possible. This allows the scheduled block to open for your peers who may be seeking an appointment. Doing so will allow the greatest chance for another student may make use of that time. You can cancel appointments online or by contacting the location where your appointment is scheduled by phone (615-343-2225) or email (tutoring@vanderbilt.edu).
LATE CANCELLATION POLICY
If you cancel an appointment fewer than 4 hours before the scheduled start time, you will receive an automated “late cancellation” notice.
Our scheduling system, WCOnline, enforces a Late Cancellation Policy:
- Clients who accrue 3 “late cancellations” will have their accounts deactivated for the rest of the semester.
- If your account is deactivated, you will be unable to view the schedule or make appointments.
- To reactivate your account, you will need to contact tutoring@vanderbilt.edu and request to meet with the Administrative Specialist. The meeting is required to discuss the reactivation of your account.
- In the meantime, you will be able to access appointments on a walk-in basis.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us manage our appointment resources effectively.
Contact information and hours for purposes of cancelling or other important communication:
Email: tutoring@vanderbilt.edu
Clients who lose appointment schedule privileges multiple semesters in a row may face further restrictions.
Tutor Match Policies
Please note that you are expected to attend each session, as the goal of the Tutor Match program is to set up a strong, scheduled tutoring relationship for the benefit of both student and tutor. If you are unable to attend one session, please reach out directly to your tutor and cancel your session on WCOnline at least 4 hours prior to its start time.
If you cancel two appointments in a row prior to the start of the tutoring session, or miss attendance completely twice in a row, we will reach out to you about the best fit of your Tutor Match. You are always welcome to discontinue the Tutor Match program at any time at no penalty.
Tutor Match aligns with all Tutoring policies regarding missed appointments, i.e., more than three missed appointments (“no-shows”) will result in a disabled account. Please see here for the full explanation.
All Tutor Match sessions are set up for regular, weekly sessions at the same time and place each week.
Summer Tutor Match policies
If you anticipate missing an appointment with your summer tutor, you may reach out to your tutor directly and copy tutoring@vanderbilt.edu and ask for a rescheduled session. This must be done at least 4 hours prior to the confirmed session, and any rescheduled session will be at the availability of the tutor. Rescheduled sessions cannot be requested as makeups for missed sessions by the client.
Since Summer sessions are accelerated and abbreviated, generally a student can expect to meet with a summer tutor between 4 and 5 times in a single summer session. To provide the best tutoring collaboration, we ask that students make every effort to meet with their summer tutor for every scheduled summer session.
Summer Tutor Match requests are initially set up for a student and tutor to meet once weekly. However, if a student requires twice-weekly meetings with their Tutor Match summer tutor, they may put that request into the redcap form and if availability allows, we will do our best to honor it.
