Update on Support for DOS Web Needs

Posted by on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in archives.

Colleagues:

Previous messages and articles have informed you of changes to the Dean of Students IT Support unit. Among those changes is centralizing Web support.

As you know, the Webmaster for the Dean of Students, The Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center, and the Student Rec Center, Mike Petruna transferred on July 1 to University Web Communications (UWC) in the Division of Public Affairs, where he and his ten new colleagues from across the University support our Web presence. Current and planned projects continue apace and we expect no disruption of service.

Mike continues to reside in Barnard Hall with the Dean of Students Specialists of Vanderbilt IT’s Distributed Technology Services, and you should not have noticed any change in Web or IT support. As previously noted, Mike continues to be the point person for Dean of Students sites within University Web Communications.

F Clark Williams continues to be the primary liaison for Dean of Students shops with University Web Communications, working closely with Mike, UWC’s director Lacy Tite, and Melanie Moran, Executive Director of integrated communications. Please get in touch with F. Clark about new projects or major overhauls and he will coordinate with Mike and UWC.

There is one change that we need to make to ensure that we are doing our part in communicating our need for assistance. For updates and tweaks to your website, please use the Web Communications help desk, located at http://vu.edu/webhelp. Use of this site will ensure your request is entered into the system and addressed in a timely manner.

Note that University Web Communications offers monthly training sessions in WordPress – one of the University’s two primary content management systems now widely used for Dean of Students sites – where you can learn how to update information on sites for which you are responsible. Registration for WordPress training can be found at http://web.vanderbilt.edu/.

Please email me or email F.Clark should you have questions about these transitions.

Thank you,

Pat Helland
Associate Director
