Accomplishments

Office for EDI notable accomplishments include:

  • Establishment of the Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion;
  • Establishment of Inclusive Excellence as an institutional goal with the other Vice Chancellors;
  • Appointed Dr. Sandra Barnes, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion;
  • Established EDI Communications: Website; Monthly newsletter EDI Connect centered upon diversity initiatives and topics centered around minority faculty, staff and students
  • Collaborated with the Chancellor’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community in facilitating the report;
  • Provided leadership for the Chancellor’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Retreat to discuss the Diversity, Inclusion and Community Report;
  • Collaboration with Provost’s Office on COACHE Faculty Survey to include questions related to equity, diversity and inclusion which are now being analyzed;
  • Established collaboration with the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Susan Wente, and Vice Chancellor for Administration, Eric Kopstain, as well as other faculty, staff and students to develop and provide campus-wide unconscious bias training opportunities; and,
  • Office received Caldwell Award from the VSG that is presented annually to an administrator, faculty member, or staff member who has dedicated substantial time, effort, and passion toward collaborating with students to enact meaningful change for Vanderbilt’s campus and students.
