Call for Abstracts: Conference on The Public and Democracy in the Americas

The LAPOP Lab is pleased to invite proposals for presentations of research using data from the AmericasBarometer for its second annual conference, “The Public and Democracy in the Americas.” See the official call for proposals here (Spanish version here).

The conference is scheduled to take place at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima, October 23-24, 2020. The LAPOP Lab is preparing to host a virtual conference (online) during these same dates if travel and in-person meetings of this kind are not possible due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We will keep interested participants up to date on any changes to conference plans.

The conference is coordinated by the LAPOP Lab at Vanderbilt University, the School of Government and Public Policy at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and the Instituto de Estudios Peruanos. It will blend presentations of LAPOP Lab research findings with scholarship that uses the AmericasBarometer to generate important insights into public opinion and democracy. The objective is to facilitate dialogue over the project, research, and democracy in the region.

Both works-in-progress and recently published research that use data from the AmericasBarometer are eligible. Undergraduate and graduate students may only submit proposals for a poster session. Presentations may be given in English or Spanish, but proposals in Portuguese are also welcome.

Proposals should be submitted using this form . Please direct any questions to lapop@vanderbilt.edu. The deadline for proposals is May 6, 2020. We have some funding available to support travel, with priority given to graduate students; those in need of travel support should indicate that within the proposal.

The AmericasBarometer is the largest comparative opinion project in the region, with data covering 34 countries from 2004 to today. All data from the project can be downloaded at the project website.
