The Writing Studio and Tutoring Services office is seeking a Graduate or Professional Student Worker to serve as Graduate Assistant for the Writing Studio program during the 2025-2026 academic year.

Position Overview

The Graduate Assistant for the Writing Studio will be responsible for supporting a variety of regular activities of the Writing Studio as well as various projects and initiatives throughout the academic year.

The Graduate Assistant for the Writing Studio will report to the Director and work closely with the Associate Director and Assistant Director for the Writing Studio. This position will assist the Writing Studio in fulfilling its mission of building an accessible, engaging, and research-informed space that supports writers, instructors of writing, and all the ways writing is an essential medium for learning, discovery, serving our communities within the university.

The ideal candidate will

  • have at least two years of experience as a Graduate Writing Consultant–or equivalent–and familiarity with the Writing Studio and its offerings.
  • highly organized, team-oriented, and able to adapt and respond effectively to shifting priorities and needs throughout the academic year.

Additional considerations:

  • Time Commitment:
    • Exact start date negotiable, but preferably no later than August 11, 2025. The position is expected to continue through the end of the academic year.
    • Weekly: 10 hours per week minimum, more depending on candidate’s interest and ability to take on additional hours.
  • Location: This is primarily an in-person, on-campus position with the Writing Studio and Tutoring Services office, with some hybrid flexibility.
  • Pay: Pay will be equal to the experienced Graduate Writing Consultant’s anticipated hourly rate for 2025-2026 plus $1.00 per hour.
  • An entirely new position for the 2025-2026 academic year, there are currently no plans for the position to continue in future years.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position’s duties and responsibilities are likely to include the following:

  • Assist with the development and facilitation of new Writing Studio workshops and other offerings for the new A&S First-Year Core
  • Help develop and carry out a communications plan related to new A&S First-Year Core supports and other WSTS objectives for the academic year.
  • Help plan and coordinate the Writing Studio’s 20th Anniversary celebration in fall 2025
  • Represent the Writing Studio at outreach events (tabling, presentation requests), as needed
  • Develop and lead writing workshops requested by campus partners, student orgs, and others, as needed
  • Contribute to ongoing Undergraduate and Graduate staff training and development:
    • lead one or more modules during Writing Studio August training
    • lead a writing consultant staff meeting (or two) each semester
    • lead or co-lead a small group of new and experienced writing consultants
    • conduct writing consultant observations and follow-up coaching discussions during fall semester and self-assessment debrief discussions in spring
  • Assist with data collection and reporting, as needed
  • Other duties and special projects assigned as time and interests permit
