Anchor of Sound Basketball Band

The Anchor of Sound

The Vanderbilt Anchor of Sound Basketball Band helps create the legendary "Memorial Magic" in Memorial Gym for both Men's and Women's Basketball games. Known for its energy and enthusiastic team support at games, the Anchor of Sound performs a wide variety of music. From classic rock, top-40 pop, hip-hop, metal, alternative, classical, and jazz, the band adds a real spark to the atmosphere.

While many members of Anchor of Sound are also members of the Spirit of Gold, that is not a pre-requisite to join! Membership is open to all Vanderbilt University students, regardless of major. Rehearsals begin in October before basketball season begins and are required to participate at games. Select members travel to the Southeastern Conference's Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament and any NCAA Tournament games the team attends. Members receive a service award for each game they play.

Membership is open to all students attending Vanderbilt University as well as other Nashville area universities (including Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Nashville State Community College, and Trevecca Nazarene University among others), although non-Vanderbilt students should communicate with Dr. Morin concerning participation requirements.

Placement Assessment / Auditions

We do not have auditions. The Vanderbilt Athletic Bands accept all persons willing to put in the effort to make the band successful. The purpose of the Placement Assessment is to make sure everyone is placed in a role that allows for success without undue stress. The Athletic Bands move quickly, and we understand that our members are students.
