    Located a mile and a half southwest of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt is home to more than 300 tree and shrub varieties and was designated an arboretum in 1988. The oldest building on the original campus was constructed around 1859.

Leadership

The Board of Trust is the governing body of the university. The chancellor, who is chosen by the Board of Trust, is the chief executive officer of the university. Daniel Diermeier is chancellor of Vanderbilt University.

Sesquicentennial

Beginning in March 2023, Vanderbilt is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding—its Sesquicentennial. Vanderbilt is marking this extraordinary milestone by reflecting on its history, taking stock of the myriad contributions to society Vanderbilt is making today and, especially, envisioning together how Vanderbilt can best take its place as the great university of the 21st century.
