Types of Tutoring
Tutoring Services offers 1-on-1 tutoring as well as different types of group-based learning support. All tutoring types are free of charge and open to enrolled Vanderbilt students.
Individual (1-on-1) tutoring
Individual (One-on-one or 1-1) appointments are 50 minutes long and open free of charge to all currently enrolled Vanderbilt students.
Pair Appointments
Students have the option of sharing a tutoring appointment with a friend for a pair appointment (2 clients and 1 tutor). Both students must be enrolled in the same course and have similar goals for the session.
Weekly Learning Roundtables
Weekly Learning Roundtables provide students with the opportunity to study regularly with dedicated peers enrolled in the same course as they work together to master course content.
Drop-In Hours
Drop-In Hour sessions are designed to allow for individual questions that a student may have for the tutor in an informal medium. Drop-In Hour sessions are capped at 5 students per session hour.
Commons Fireside Lounge
At the Commons Fireside Lounge, tutors will hold an hour long Weekly Learning Roundtable group session in CHEM 1601 for a maximum of ten students. This will be followed by an hour of drop-in sessions for a wider selection of courses, not necessarily just CHEM 1601 students, which is capped at a maximum of five students.
Neurodiversity-focused Tutoring Support
Beginning in Fall 2026, Tutoring Services is proud to join the Writing Studio in expanding its services to include new neurodiversity-focused tutoring support offerings for the select list of undergraduate science, math, and economics courses on which Tutoring Services focuses.
