Class Reserves

Departments and schools are able to set aside seats in class sections for specific groups of students like departmental majors, entering students, or specific registration groups. The reserved seats are called Class Reserves.

How Class Reserves Work

  • Reserved seats are available only to the specified group.
  • If you are eligible for a reserve, you will be able to register during the period that the seats are reserved.
  • Many reserves have an expiration date (e.g., the start of the Open Enrollment/Add/Drop period). Remaining seats may open to other students after that date.
  • If you attempt to enroll in a class and receive an error message related to reserved seats, please try enrolling in another section of the class (if applicable) and/or add yourself to the waitlist.

Need Help?

  • If you believe you should be eligible for a reserved seat, please contact the department offering the class.
  • If you are unable to enroll in a class with reserved seats and have questions about next steps, please contact your academic adviser.

Please keep in mind that seats become open often throughout the registration process as other students change their minds about courses, switch sections, etc. This can happen sometimes as late as the first week of classes as students adjust their schedules through the drop/add period.
