Transfer Credit

Undergraduate Schools

Transfer credit is available to undergraduate students in the following circumstances:

  • Entering transfer students.
  • Entering first-year students who have taken college work during their junior or senior year of high school through dual-degree or concurrent enrollment programs. (Pre-Freshman Credit)
  • Current students who are approved to take coursework at another institution during the fall and/or spring semester. (Semester Work Elsewhere)
  • Current students who are approved to take coursework at another institution during the summer. (Summer Work Elsewhere)

Transfer students and entering first-year students should submit a detailed syllabus for each course for which they are seeking transfer credit to their admitting school’s Office of Academic Services.

Students must obtain approval from their school’s Dean’s Office in advance of studying elsewhere during a semester or summer term in order to transfer those credits to Vanderbilt.

Transfer credit will not be awarded for any course in which a student earned a grade of C- or below.

Specific policies governing transfer credit are defined at the school level. For information, please see the Undergraduate Catalog.
