Students Access to the Rec
Undergraduate students receive automatic access to the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center (Rec) through the Student Support Fee, which is included in their tuition and fees. Graduate and professional students have access if they are assessed the full on-campus Student Services Fee. Graduate and professional students enrolled in online or remote programs pay a reduced Student Services Fee that does not include Rec access.
Membership Eligibility Options:
Membership at the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center (Rec) is available to:
- Current Vanderbilt University employees (faculty, staff, and postdocs)
- Current university interns and scholars
- Recognized retired emeriti faculty
- Current Vanderbilt University Medical Center employees
See the membership table below for details on membership types and rates.
University Plus 1 Membership Benefit:
University employees, current university interns and scholars, and retired emeriti faculty may add a Plus 1 to their membership as a benefit of being and remaining an active Vandy Rec member. A Plus 1 must be at least 18 years old and reside in the same household as the sponsoring member. To verify residency, both the active Vandy Rec member and the Plus 1 must schedule an appointment with recmemberservices@vanderbilt.edu and provide the acceptable documentation outlined by the Membership Team.
See the membership table below for details.
Student Spouse Memberships:
Current Vanderbilt student spouses are eligible to become Rec members. To access this benefit, student spouses must comply with all policies outlined in the Student Handbook. The enrolled Vanderbilt student and their spouse must obtain a valid Family Identification Card from Vanderbilt Card Services to verify relationship status before purchasing a membership. At the verification meeting with Rec staff at the Welcome Desk, the student spouse must also present their Vanderbilt ID. Membership eligibility is contingent on the Vanderbilt student remaining actively enrolled in classes.
See the membership table below for additional details.
General Membership Policies:
- Memberships must be purchased in person using a debit or credit card only.
- All memberships are non-refundable.
- Membership fees will not be reimbursed or prorated for closures or changes in operations (e.g., summer semester, university holidays, construction, maintenance, breaks, or other necessary events).
- Memberships are assigned to a specific individual and are not transferable.
Guest Policy
Guests are not permitted access to Rec facilities during normal operations. Families and friends are welcome to use the Rec only during designated university events (fall move-in, family weekend, homecoming, fall move-out, spring move-in, commencement, and spring move-out). All guests must complete a liability waiver before entry, and any child under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
Parking
For the protection of students, faculty, staff and postdocs, no parking is allowed at anytime, anywhere on campus, without a valid Vanderbilt University registration permit, except by visitors in spaces designated for visitors. For more information visit https://www.vanderbilt.edu/traffic_parking/.
Minors Under the Age of 18
At this time, children under the age of 18 are not allowed in the facility except to attend university events open to the public or participate in university approved youth programs.
