About

In August 2018 Vanderbilt launched a new trans-institutional Data Science Institute in response to a report issued by the Data Science Visions working group and solicited by the Provost.

Institute Vision

Vanderbilt has established the Data Science Institute to accelerate data-driven research, promote collaboration, and train future leaders. The institute brings together experts in data science methods with leaders in all academic fields to spark new discoveries in research as well as to study the impact of big data on society. The institute will educate students in computational and statistical data science techniques to become future leaders in industry, government, academia and the non-profit sector.

Institute Goals

  • Promote data-intensive research and quantitative collaboration across Vanderbilt, as well as provide a forum to study the impact of ‘big data’ on society.
  • Launch educational programs for the community at large, including a new professional MS program in data science to begin in Fall of 2019.
  • Establish new connections, and strengthen existing ones, with government, industry and non-profit entities who are active in the data science space.
