Resources at Vanderbilt 

The Center for Cognitive Medicine

Provides free memory screenings as well as resources related to Alzheimer’s and Dementia. 

OLLI at Vanderbilt

OLLI at Vanderbilt helps adults over 50 rediscover the joy of learning and build community through diverse social interaction.

Osher Center for Integrative Medicine 

Vanderbilt's Osher Center for Integrative Medicine offers a range of services, classes and training focused on your total health mind, body and spirit .

Supplemental Life/Will Preparation

If you’re enrolled in MetLife’s Supplemental Life Insurance coverage, you and your spouse may take advantage of Will Preparation services. It is offered through Hyatt Legal Plans, a MetLife company, and provides access to attorneys who participate in Hyatt Legal Plans’ network for preparing or for updating wills, living wills and powers of attorney. You may also use a non-participating attorney and receive reimbursement for covered services according to a set fee schedule. You will be responsible for any of the attorney fees that exceed the reimbursed amount if you choose the out-of-network option.

Vanderbilt Home Care

Vanderbilt Home Care provides caregivers for you in an environment where you feel most comfortable and independent.

Under the direction of your doctor, our nurses and therapists help you with daily tasks including bathing, dressing, eating and managing medications. Our caregivers also provide company and emotional support. When you receive care from Vanderbilt Home Care, you can rest assured. You are in the hands of highly skilled, compassionate caregivers who put your needs first.

Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center

VMAC has clinic services for adults experiencing memory loss as well as a support group for Caregiver and Early Stage Alzheimer’s Patients. Please contact them directly for information on their meetings 615-322-8676. 

Vanderbilt-Reynolds Geriatrics Education Center

They have a library of Alzheimer training materials as well as links to additional resources. 

Local & State Resources 

Tennessee 2-1-1

Serves as a  state-wide community services referral line. 2-1-1 has a database of more than 10,000 cross-referenced health and human services and is staffed by trained specialists who can help callers find the closest place to get help. All calls are free and confidential.

Elder Care Locator 

The Eldercare Locator is a nationwide service that connects older Americans and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources.

Senior Directory Nashville

Senior Directory provides up-to-date information on senior housing, home care, and over 70 categories of services throughout the United States.  With local print directories in 14 major US cities, a website to search locally for services, and a comprehensive blog contains dozens of articles on healthy aging, caregiving, and much more!

Nashville Parks and Recreation | Senior Recreation Program  

Metro Parks Senior Recreation Program provides services and activities specifically designed for those who are 55 years of age and older. Three designated senior sites; East, Elizabeth, and Hadley, along with nine satellite programs in neighborhood centers, provide a variety of programs including visual arts, dance, crafts, and other recreational pursuits.

Tennessee Area Agencies on Aging and Disability 

The Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability is the designated state agency on aging and is mandated to provide leadership relative to aging issues on behalf of older persons in the state. Our mission is to bring together and leverage programs, resources, and organizations to protect and ensure the quality of life and independence of older Tennesseans and adults with disabilities.

Council on Aging

The Directory of Services©  is the one-stop impartial resource for older adults, caregivers and professionals in the Middle TN area. As a non-profit agency that is a not direct service provider, COA is in a unique position to provide complete and impartial information on the services for seniors and caregivers in the 13 County area. Information includes but is not limited to activities & education, housing, medical services, transportation and help at home.

Counties served are  Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson & Wilson.

Fifty Forward 

Through seven  locations  and a variety of programs in Davidson and Williamson counties, FiftyForward provides enrichment opportunities for adults 50 and older to remain engaged in living their lives to the fullest.

Counseling Resources 

Vanderbilt Work-Life Connections- EAP

The Employee Assistance Program of Work/Life Connections-EAP is available to Vanderbilt staff including full-time, part-time and TempForce employees and their spouses.

Personal and family problems can impact the workplace by affecting the employee's focus, health, and other productivity concerns. The Work/Life Connections-Employee Assistance Program is like a travel agent for psychological support services. With experienced, trained EAP counselors; staff at Vanderbilt report that WLC-EAP is a great place to start to resolve personal or workplace concerns. Employees seek services from WLC-EAP to deal with a variety of issues (stress, emotional health, relationships, family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, and other personal concerns). WLC-EAP can also help an employee formulate a plan for expanding communication and personal interaction skills which may impact other workplace issues.

Alive Hospice

Offers a variety of grief support services including: 

  • Bereavement care notes sent for one year to the families and friends of patients served by Alive Hospice
  • Grief 101
  • Support groups: Eight-week sessions facilitated by professional counselors in various locations. In addition to our individual counseling services, Alive Grief Support Services facilitates quarterly support groups for those who been affected by the death of a loved one. These groups are limited in size, and organized according to the type of loss experienced. Professional counselors facilitate these eight-week groups.
  • Group memorial services for families and friends of patients served by Alive Hospice
  • Children’s grief services: Summer day camps in Nashville and Murfreesboro, annual overnight retreat for teens, specialized counseling and group support, Family Grief Nights, and Little Hearts Club
  • Quarterly workshops
  • Holiday grief seminars open to the public
  • Individual counseling: One-on-one sessions with Master's Level Grief Counselors. Up to 26 sessions are free of charge to family and friends of Alive Hospice patients. A fee is charged for those whose loved one was not a patient of Alive Hospice. No one is denied service for inability to pay.

  • Educational presentations to professional and community organizations


Offers counseling sessions in both our Franklin and Green Hills, TN offices, or they can meet with you at home. LifeLinks counseling focuses on support and encouragement and is never intimidating; including the whole family system with services for both the older adult and the caregivers.

Led by Counselor and Licensed Master Social Worker Melissa Burton, their team utilizes multiple evidence-based methods and tailor counseling seesions to meet your unique needs and circumstances.  Aging is complicated and it impacts the whole family.  You do not have to go through this journey alone.

Transportation Resources 

Senior Ride Nashville

Senior Ride Nashville is an affordable, assisted ride service that pairs a senior who needs a ride with a volunteer who can give one.

GoGo Grandparent

GoGoGrandparent turns on-demand transportation companies like Lyft into services that help families take better care of older adults.

Caregivers By Whole Transportation Service 

Wheelchair Accessible Van and Car Transportation Assistance offered for all your everyday needs throughout Middle Tennessee. Visit the website submit a transportation request online - a WholeCare transportation specialist will call you back quickly to schedule.

Metropolitan Social Services  

Provides transportation to certain area nutrition sites in Davidson County.  (615-862-8840)

Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency

Provides curb-to-curb transportation in the 12 counties surrounding Davidson County during the week (Monday through Friday). Reservations are requested 24 hours in advance for local trips and 72 hours in advance for out-of-county trips.

Nashville MTA Access Ride

The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority's (MTA) Access program is a publicly funded paratransit service, which operates specialized van services for persons with disabilities who are unable to use regular fixed-route buses. Access provides door-to-door paratransit service within Davidson County, excluding commuter or express service.
