Cross-listing and Course Merges
Brief introduction paragraph.
Courses that use identical content, and do not need separate course spaces.
Limited to specific situations
If your situation doesn’t fit the stuff below, contact us.
Cross-Listed Courses
Cross-listing is done through the Office of the University Registrar. Here are the most common examples of cross-listed courses:
- Courses that have an undergraduate and graduate component. Example: ENGL 2000/6000
- Courses that span two departments. Example: DIV/REL 3000
Cross-listed courses typically meet in the same physical space at the same time, but are listed as two different courses.
If your courses need to be cross-listed, your department must contact the URO to set this up. Once courses are cross-listed in YES, it will automatically show up that way in Brightspace.
Section Merges
A section merge is done by Brightspace Support at the Center for Teaching. Section merges are restricted to multiple sections of the same course number, being taught by the same instructor or team of instructors. These are the most common examples of section merges:
- One instructor is teaching three sections. Example JAPN 1000 01-03
- Many instructors are sharing multiple sections: Example CHEM 2000L 01-30
If your sections need to be merged, contact Brightspace Support. Once sections are merged, they cannot be “unmerged”.
