Research IT Services

The Vanderbilt Research IT Service (RITS) connects researchers with the full range of technology resources they need to plan, conduct, and complete their work. Established in 2018 through multiple faculty-led initiatives, the service was created to meet the growing demand for specialized IT support across disciplines. Today, it operates under ACCRE and reports to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation, aligning closely with Vanderbilt’s broader research mission.

Our team helps bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and the technical infrastructure required to support it. Whether you are developing new data-driven methods, scaling projects that rely on high-performance computing, or exploring ways to integrate advanced tools into your workflow, we provide tailored support to move your research forward.

In addition to direct technical support, we also provide consultative services to connect researchers with other campus resources. Acting as a liaison, we help researchers engage with VUIT, the Vanderbilt Libraries, and the Data Science Institute to ensure they have the right mix of expertise, tools, and support.

One of our signature offerings is the Research Software Engineer for Hire Service. This program gives researchers access to professional programming expertise for:

  • Workflow optimization – improving efficiency and reproducibility.
  • AI/ML development – building and integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning models to be leveraged at ACCRE and beyond
  • Web-based research applications – creating custom solutions to support unique research needs.

By combining deep technical knowledge with an understanding of research challenges, Vanderbilt Research IT Services helps faculty, staff, and students spend less time wrestling with technology and more time focusing on discovery and innovation.
