Student Housing and Gender
Student Housing has been a topic of cross-campus discussion, inner community dialogue, and on the list of student, faculty, and staff priorities for some time now. During the Spring 2016 semester, a gender inclusive pilot program has been instated as a result of the tedious work of members from the Office of Housing Assignments, the Office of Housing and Residential Education, and LGBTQI Life alongside the tireless efforts of trans and allied students.
Chris Purcell, Director of LGBTQI Life, (pronouns: he/him/his) issued a community-wide statement on the evolution of this gender inclusive pilot program in February 2016. This statement discusses the options of the pilot program, the housing ballot process, and offers deadlines to participate. It can be found here.
The Vanderbilt Hustler, a community student newspaper, published an article covering these gender inclusive housing options in March 2016. This article can be found here.
The Office of Housing and Residential Education knows that each person has their own specific needs and comfort levels. Alison Matarese of the Office of Housing Assignments (pronouns: she/her/hers) can help guide you through the room assignment procedure to find the housing option that works best for you.
