Grade 11: Summer Research II

The Summer Research II course is designed to give students further insights into designing and undertaking a scientific research project, as well as the necessity of effective communication with the scientific community and the general public.

The winners of the 2025 SSMV poster session built a machine that converted plastic drink bottles into 3D printing filament.

Students continue or expand upon the group projects from the previous semester and design a scientific poster about their research. They then present to their peers, families, and members of the Vanderbilt community at the Joint Retreat Research Symposium. The teams will be expected to convene regularly to share progress, constructive input, and strategic next steps throughout the session.

In the fall, students move on to the Interdisciplinary Science IIIclass.
