Ambassador Spotlight

Hello Vanderbilt community!

My name is Jose Hurtado and I am a Fall 2017 Student Ambassador at the Wond’ry. I am studying the second year of my MBA at the Owen Graduate School of Management, concentrating on Marketing and Strategy with an Emphasis in Entrepreneurship. I am from Mexico City and I lived most of my life there, where I attended law school to become an International Corporate Lawyer. After a couple of years working as a lawyer for a global car company, I transitioned to the business side of the firm when I was invited into a rotational program. It is in 2011 when I moved for the first time to Nashville (a very different city back then) to be part of the commercial vehicles division. After 18 months here, I moved to Japan, where I worked in charge of a vehicle produced in seven plants around the world and sold in more than 100 countries. After those amazing experiences, I went back to Mexico where I worked for another two years before deciding that it was time for me to go back to school to get my MBA.

My project this semester at the Wond’ry is to create some tools for people who know that they want to be entrepreneurs but do not have their own idea to develop. By asking “aspiring entrepreneurs” what are their passions and their skills I want to create networks of people that share the same interests and passions to be the starting point of their new ventures. With workshops and networking events created around a common passion or topic, the Wond’ry will be able to become a common space where “aspiring entrepreneurs” can identify common goals and interests to start their ventures. Be on the lookout for new workshops and events aimed towards meeting these goals this coming semester and please feel free to reach out to me with any ideas you may have! I look forward to the semester to come and the opportunity to contribute to the Wond’ry!

Saludos,

Jose Hurtado
