Internships

Join our team! Learn from world-class managers about investment opportunities and leave a direct impact on the endowment’s growth.

Overview

Interns receive mentorship from analysts, managers, and leadership throughout their time with us. By reading and hearing market commentary and stock pitches from skilled managers and participating in strategic and tactical discussions, interns develop a framework for understanding the investment landscape that they can use to form and express their own investment opinions. We strive to understand our portfolio from top to bottom, which means there is always something new for us to study and learn.

Interns can support our operations team or the public or private investments teams. The broad scope of the endowment’s work means that no two internships will be the same but guarantees that interns will leave with broad exposure built through projects and daily tasks.

As a general overview:

  • The operations team provides support to the investment teams in the areas of accounting, reporting, and data and analytics
  • The public team covers global equities, hedge funds, commodities, and fixed income
  • The private team covers venture capital, private equity, natural resources, and real estate

Internship Opportunities

  • Summer Internship Program

Our Summer Program runs 10-weeks from June through August. We seek students with an outstanding record of academic achievement and a passion for finance and investments. Summer interns will support either the public or private investment teams. Many students who participate in this program have gone on to become full-time Investment Analysts after graduation. This paid, part-time position is designed for undergraduates seeking investment and office experience. The internship is open to both Vanderbilt students and students from other universities. Housing and academic credit not provided.

  • Investors of Tomorrow Internship

OoI is committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the financial sector. Our Investors of Tomorrow internship program is designed to offer students, regardless of their academic background or prior experience in finance, a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of endowment investing.

Our mission is clear: to engage, develop, and empower individuals who exhibit a genuine interest in finance but may not have had the traditional pathway into this field. Through hands-on learning experiences, mentorship from industry professionals, and exposure to real-world investment strategies, we aim to ignite a passion for finance and investing among our interns and inspire the next generation of leaders.

The internship is a paid, part-time position, offered during Spring and Fall semesters. Sophomores from all majors at Vanderbilt who meet the criteria are eligible to apply.

  • Student-Athlete Summer Internship

The Office of Investments has enjoyed a partnership with Vanderbilt University Athletics and is always eager to work with student-athletes who are interested in finance. During the internship experience, student-athletes have the opportunity to assist either our investment or operations teams. Our investment interns directly support our public or private teams, determining short- and long-term allocation targets, uncovering and performing diligence on prospective investment managers, and monitoring either the private or public portfolio, both in aggregate and at the manager level. Students can also get hands-on experience supporting the operations team by updating performance metrics, data, and files; handling investment manager reports; and maintaining portfolio and operational data in our investment database. The broad scope of the endowment’s work means that no two internships are the same, but guarantees that students leave with broad exposure to projects and daily tasks.

    How to Apply

Student-athletes have a different recruiting process than candidates for other positions. Each year Vanderbilt Athletics hosts a job fair for those interested in summer internships. After meeting with our team at the event, applicants can express interest and submit their résumé through Vanderbilt Athletics. Applicants also can bring their résumés to the fair to provide to our representatives.
