Empowering High School Girls with Financial Literacy

This month, OoI had the opportunity to host Rock The Street, Wall Street (RTSWS). Anders serves on the board of this nonprofit, which is committed to enhancing financial literacy among high school girls, fueling their interest in finance careers, and opening doors for success in the industry. During RTSWS’s on-site Strategic Planning session, the committee delved into new initiatives to empower students and sponsors, furthering the organization’s goals.

Anders also participated in the first-ever Leadership Summit with RTSWS’s student CEOs. Anders discussed his career path and what led to him becoming CIO at Vanderbilt. He also offered what he thinks the future of the industry will look like. When asked to share his advice with students interested in investments and finance, Anders recommended they read extensively and stay updated on current events. He shared some personal book recommendations, including Pioneering Portfolio Management by David F. Swensen and Too Big To Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin.

By inspiring the next generation of women in finance, RTSWS (and Anders!) hope to make a significant impact towards gender and racial equality the finance industry.
