Patrick McGee Mato Grosso, Brazil - Alianca da Terra

This summer, I traveled to Brazil to do my Summer Project with Aliança da Terra. My project was to study Aliança’s fire brigade and write a report describing how they operate and how they fit within Aliança and Brazil as a whole using wildland firefighting in the United States as a baseline. The first five weeks of my project were spent at Aliança’s office in Goiania, the last four were spent in north-eastern Mato Grosso where Aliança’s brigade is based. Aliança is a fascinating and complex organization operating and a fascinating and complex environment.
