Religious Accommodations

All accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis. On average, the process takes at least two weeks to complete. Accommodations are not retroactive and begin only after they are approved by EOA.

Faculty and Staff

To request a reasonable accommodation for a religious practice at Vanderbilt University, employees should submit the Religious Reasonable Accommodation Request Form. Submitting this form initiates an interactive process involving the employee, the employee’s supervisor, the Equal Opportunity and Access office, and other relevant parties as determined by Vanderbilt. Religious accommodation requests are re-evaluated annually.

The Reasonable Accommodation Manager may contact the employee to request additional information or to schedule a meeting and discuss the requested accommodation, including any possible alternatives. The employee and their supervisor will be notified of the outcome once a determination is made. All accommodation requests are determined and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Students

To request a reasonable accommodation for a religious practice at Vanderbilt University, students and applicants for admission should submit the Religious Reasonable Accommodation Request Form. Submitting this form initiates an interactive process involving the student, EOA, and other appropriate campus partners, such as Student Affairs, Housing, or academic leadership.

An EOA staff member may contact the student to request additional information or to schedule a meeting and discuss the accommodation request and any alternative accommodations. The student and appropriate campus partners will be notified of any accommodation decisions. All accommodation requests are determined and reviewed on an individual basis.

Examples of possible accommodations may include rescheduling an exam or excused absences.
