Description: Art is in the service of vision, so it is not surprising that artists can help us see the world in new ways. And artists are creators, who innovate and create new worlds, who renew our built environments, who fashion our outer landscapes as well as our inner worlds. In this way, all art is “activist.” Some art is explicitly so. This event seeks to draw on the activist spirit of artists to address the issue of immigration in America. Vision, critique, possibility, love and hope: these are the elements of art that need to be the elements of any approach to immigration in our nation. Join us as we listen to artists and the creative spirit in us, seeking to create a more hospitable, hopeful and loving world. We will engage artists and our own creative selves as we reflect on the role of art and activism. Events will include a screening and talk-back on Second Cooler, a film on immigration by Ellin Jimmerson, as well as music by Dave Perkins and Ashley Cleveland, and a lecture on the role of art and protest in Immigration debates. Finally, participants will be invited to participate in a hands on workshop.
