Overview
Immersive experiences that can be the basis for an Immersion Vanderbilt qualify as such because of the type of engagement they allow students to undertake. Students engage in self-reflection on the four milestone forms for Immersion Vanderbilt. The self-reflection prompts are based on the five learning goals of Immersion Vanderbilt. Immersion Vanderbilt faculty mentors and advisers guide students through the experiential and project phases, ensuring students are learning through the act of doing.
Mentoring and Advising
Vanderbilt University faculty can mentor immersive experiences that serve as the basis for Immersion Vanderbilt final culminating projects. Undergraduate research is always mentored by a faculty member. Likewise, the creation and completion of Immersion Vanderbilt final culminating projects are always advised by a Vanderbilt University faculty member. Immersion Vanderbilt faculty advisers guide students through to the completion of the final culminating project and decide when the student has completed their requirement.
Advising Requirements
The format of and plan to complete the final culminating project is decided upon by the student and their Immersion Vanderbilt faculty adviser. Final projects can take many formats and can be presented at a showcase or fair. When students and Immersion Vanderbilt faculty advisers develop their plan and add it to the Post-Experience Goals and Plan for Completion form, details about the final culminating project and the timeline for it are decided and submitted on the form.
