Abstract:  Performance and risk assessments play an important role to support decision-making for waste management, decommissioning, and environmental remediation.  Potential long-term hazards, stakeholder concerns and uncertainties associated with natural and engineered systems pose a variety of challenges to justifying assumptions and defending conclusions of modeling activities.  This webinar will present historical perspectives and practical experiences associated with policy and technical challenges of interest to practitioners, regulators, and stakeholders in general.

About the speaker:  Roger Seitz is retired from the Savannah River National Laboratory and currently works part-time as a consultant with Inspection Experts, Inc. and consults directly for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).  He has more than 35 years of experience involving performance and risk assessment to support decision-making.  He currently provides technical and policy support to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the IAEA, and DOE sites.  His career has included implementation, management, training, and support activities related to disposal, site remediation, and facility decommissioning and closure across the United States and in more than 15 different countries.  He has also contributed to peer reviews and/or recommendations for the IAEA, DOE, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements.
