Undergraduate Semester Program Admissions

Undergraduate students from any school or college at Vanderbilt can apply to the Vanderbilt University–New York City program offered by the College of Arts and Science, School of Engineering, or Peabody’s Human and Organizational Development program if you meet the requirements. Blair School of Music students can also pursue internships while exploring the arts in New York City through these programs. Vanderbilt University–New York City Undergraduate Semester Program Eligibility

To be eligible for a fall or spring semester at Vanderbilt University–New York City, you must:

  • Be a matriculated Vanderbilt undergraduate student
  • Be a first-semester or second-semester junior or senior at the time of enrollment in NYC
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
  • Be in good academic, disciplinary and student financial account standing
    • Note: Any probationary status or account hold, if applicable, must end before the start date of the program.

Additional Eligibility Considerations by Student Enrollment Status

  • International Students

    Students who are studying on an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to speak with an adviser in International Student and Scholar Services about employment for the internship component of the Vanderbilt University–New York City program. International students are encouraged to review the information on Curricular Practical Training (F-1 students) or Academic Training (J-1 students) in advance.

  • Transfer Students

    Students who have transferred to Vanderbilt must have completed a minimum of two semesters on campus in Nashville before enrolling for a semester at Vanderbilt University–New York City. This usually will mean that transfer students apply for Vanderbilt University–New York City during their second semester on campus.

  • Students on a Leave of Absence

    Students maintain their full-time enrolled status at Vanderbilt during a semester at Vanderbilt University–New York City. As a result, students cannot participate while taking a leave of absence during that term. Students who are on a leave of absence at the time of application will be expected to return to full-time enrollment by the start of the Vanderbilt University–New York City semester.

  • Withdrawn Students

    Students who are withdrawn from Vanderbilt University for any reason are ineligible to participate in the Vanderbilt University–New York City semester. If reinstated, students must complete a minimum of one semester on campus in Nashville before enrolling for a semester at Vanderbilt University–New York City.

Application Timeline for Fall 2026 NYC Undergraduate Semester Program

  • Nov. 19, 2025: Applications open
  • Jan. 13, 2026: Application deadline
  • Jan. 26, 2026: Application decisions announced
  • March 27, 2026: Program commitment deadline (Internship placements must also be secured by this date.)

Note: Students will apply for Vanderbilt University–NYC housing and register for Vanderbilt University–New York City courses during the same periods as they would register for Nashville-based housing and courses. More details will be available to students upon being selected to participate in the Vanderbilt University–New York City Undergraduate Semester Program.
