Coleman Harris: Science Policy and more
With Election Day upon us, we’re reminded of a report by PhD student Coleman Harris, The 2020 Census Delays, Changes, and Complications for Accuracy and Redistricting, that was published by the Union of Concerned Scientists this past July. Cole recently blogged about the project at the National Science Policy Network, which runs the SciPol Scholars Bootcamp that led to his residency with UCS. Read about how the project took shape: in addition to the report, Cole’s advocacy efforts featured a call for fair representation, signed by hundreds of scientists, plus two webinars.
Cole has also been busy with his dissertation work on multiplexed imaging normalization, organizing sessions at JSM, serving as the Biostatistics Graduate Student Association president. At this year’s departmental awards ceremony, we presented him with the Commodore Award in Biostatistics, in recognition of his altruistic dedication to enriching the department and the graduate program.
