Move-In

First-year student move in will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Students will be provided with a specific move-in time between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. with their room assignment information.

Room Assignments

  • How do I complete my housing application?

    The First-Year Student Housing Application will be available in the Housing Portal in early April. You will need your VUnetID and password in order to access the housing application. All incoming first-year students are required to submit an application. The deadline to submit an application is June 1.

  • Can I choose which House I live in?

    First-year students are randomly assigned to houses. Requests for assignment to specific buildings will not be considered.

  • Can I see my room prior to move in?

    We do not show rooms before move in. The houses are closed while we prepare them for your arrival. However, you may find photos and room tours for most types of rooms.

  • Can I change my room assignment before I move in?

    Rooms are assigned randomly, not by request. However, there is a room change request period that begins about two weeks after the start of classes. Students will be notified in August of the exact date of the request period.

  • How do I apply for reasonable accommodations under the ADA?

    Our office partners with the Office of Student Access to ensure consistency in evaluating requests for reasonable accommodation in housing. The deadline for submitting accommodations requests for reasonable accommodations is June 1.

Student Renter's Insurance

As a resident, you are liable to the University and others for loss or damage caused by your actions or those of your guests. You are required to maintain adequate property and liability insurance. 

Consolidation Policy

Please note that in the event your assigned roommate(s) withdraws from the university, Housing and Residential Experience reserves the right to relocate you to an alternate space within the same Commons House prior to student move in. Consolidation efforts will be communicated to you prior to your arrival on campus.

Undergraduate Housing Contract

Residents assume responsibility for cleaning their rooms, the condition of their rooms and furnishings plus that of shared spaces (e.g., corridors, bathrooms, lounges, lobbies), and for any damage or loss that may occur during their occupancy.
