UPDATES
CENTRAL NEIGHBORHOOD
Construction for the Central Utilities Initiative (CUI) Phase II and the Central Neighborhood Residential Colleges continues in the area. As a reminder, Parking lot 16, located next to Studio Arts along Garland Avenue, is now open to accommodate the closing of Lot 18 until mid-June. To access this lot, commuters should take 25th Avenue South to the drive in front of the Student Life Center.

Plan your route, another portion of Garland Avenue closes June 22

To continue progress with the Central Utilities Initiative Phase II and to deliver resilient, upgraded utilities to the Historic Neighborhood part of Garland Avenue is closed until September 2026.
Commuters can use a two-way temporary road located off 24th Avenue South to access Stevenson Center Lane. There is clear, marked pedestrian paths throughout the area. The proposed pathways are highlighted in dark blue.
The western end of Garland Avenue will close from Monday, June 22 through Monday, November 9 for installation of thermal, storm, sanitary, electrical and telecommunications utilities. Lot 18, adjacent to Olin Avenue, will reopen June 22, allowing closure of Lot 16 south of the Studio Arts building so utility work can continue in that area.
Additional traffic control staff and signage will be deployed during the closure. Temporary pedestrian pathways will be highlighted and separated from construction areas by perimeter fencing to maintain safety and accessibility.
HISTORIC CORE NEIGHBORHOOD
Kissam Student Center Lot Closure

Lots 3 and 4 near the Kissam Center will be closed from June 22 until July 31 for repaving. The project will begin work at 8 a.m. each weekday.
ADA spaces currently in lots 3 and 4 will be relocated to ensure access to the building is not interrupted.

Stevenson Center 6 Construction Site
Above grade demolition is complete at the Stevenson Center 6 construction site. The construction manager is finalizing demolition and preparing the site for foundation and footers.

Blasting to take place at SC6 site until mid-August
Rock blasting at the SC6 site has started and is expected to last until mid-August. Blasting will take place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., typically at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.
Standard blasting signals will be used.
Traffic on Stevenson Center Lane will be stopped during each blast, but access to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center roundabout will remain open. Blasting activities will comply with Tennessee Blasting Standards, which regulate vibration and noise levels. If permitted thresholds are exceeded, the contractor will make adjustments.
- Three air-horn blasts will sound five minutes before a shot, followed by three short blasts one minute before detonation.
- A single prolonged blast will signal the all-clear after inspection.
Tower crane erection to occur July 17-19 at SC6
The SC6 tower crane is scheduled to be erected from Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19. The new McTyeire-area parking lot will remain available Friday, July 17, though short closures may occur as an assist crane is positioned. Access through the VUMC ‘gothic door’ will be maintained with traffic control, but pedestrians may experience brief delays.
The parking lot and gothic door access will be fully closed July 18–19 while crane components are delivered and assembled.
PEABODY NEIGHBORHOOD
Peabody roundabout to close May 10 for underground utility work

Starting Sunday, May 10 the roundabout and connected sidewalks located between Memorial, Stambaugh, East and Crawford Houses will close until August 2026. The egress from these buildings to the roundabout and nearby sidewalks will be closed for the duration of the project, pedestrians should follow the signs in and around the buildings.
South Drive, Sidewalk Closure

The entrance, stairs and sidewalk of the Wyatt Center along the Peabody Esplanade will be closed from Monday, May 11, to Friday, July 31, to install storm drains and new hardscape.
South Drive along the back of the Wyatt Center will be closed to traffic from Monday, May 11, to Friday, July 31, to install storm drains, sanitary lines and to widen the roadway. The remainder of South Drive is now a dismount zone; pedestrians should dismount bikes and scooters in the area. Signs are posted to distinguish the dismount zone.
UTILITY OUTAGES
- Chilled Water Outage Planned for Gillette | A chilled water outage is planned for Gilette on Tuesday, June 23 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this outage, no air conditioning will be available in the building.
- Electrical Outage Planned for North Hall | An electrical outage is planned for North Hall on Monday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this outage, no electricity will be available in the building.
ROAD & SIDEWALK CLOSURES
- Vanderbilt Place from 25th Avenue South to 24th Avenue South Remains closed.
- Portion of 25th Avenue to close overnight on July 7 | 25th Avenue South near Garland Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8 to install a crane at the Central Neighborhood Residential College construction site.
- Baker Building to close for July | The Baker Building parking garage will be closed from Wednesday, July 1
