CENTRAL NEIGHBORHOOD

Vanderbilt Place is now open to two-way traffic. The opening reflects the continued progress of the Central Utilities Initiative (CUI) and the Central Neighborhood Residential project. 

The sidewalks along Vanderbilt Place are also reopen, creating easier navigation from the Frist Athletics Village and Highland Quad to Central Campus and the West End Neighborhood.  

You May Notice:  

• Ongoing worker presence.   
• Disruptive activity including rock hammering and drilling.    
• Pedestrian routes are subject to change. Please pay attention to your surroundings and follow the posted signs to navigate the area.    

Construction Activity Timing: 

• Weekdays, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.   
• Construction continues until summer 2029.  

Plan your route, another portion of Garland Avenue closed until October 

To continue progress with the Central Utilities Initiative Phase II and to deliver resilient, upgraded utilities to the Historic Neighborhood part of Garland Avenue is closed until October 18.  

Commuters can use a two-way temporary road located off 24th Avenue South to access Stevenson Center Lane.  There is clear, marked pedestrian paths throughout the area.  

The western end of Garland Avenue will be closed until Monday, November 9 for installation of thermal, storm, sanitary, electrical and telecommunications utilities. 

Additional traffic control staff and signage will be deployed during the closure. Temporary pedestrian pathways will be highlighted and separated from construction areas by perimeter fencing to maintain safety and accessibility.   

Transit operations will also be adjusted. Bus drivers will be rerouted to Highland Avenue to access Stevenson Center Lane and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center roundabout near Eskind.

Lot Closures

Olin Lot will be closed until September 14 in order to install both temporary and permanent NES electrical poles, and to complete the utility connections to those poles.  

Lot 11 will also be closed from August 3 until January 1. To accomodate commuters during the lot closures, we are providing 10 spaces in the Lot south of Studio Arts, and 8 spaces along 24th Ave.  

Partial Lane Closure on 24th Ave.  

To install a new pedestrian sidewalk, one lane of 24th Avenue will be closed until July 26. One lane will also be closed from August 3 - March 27. 

Pedestrians should use the new sidewalk on the northeast side of 24th Ave. Flag guards and signage will be present to direct traffic and pedestrians, so please be on the lookout for all safety signage. 

HISTORIC CORE NEIGHBORHOOD

Above grade demolition is complete at the Stevenson Center 6 construction site and foundation work is underway with grade beams, perimeter walls and waterproofing work being done.

• Moderate to low noise levels. 

Construction Activity Timing: 

• Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. 
• Construction continues until summer 2029. 

PEABODY NEIGHBORHOOD

It’s been a busy time at the Commons Residential College site as sitework continues this school year.  Exterior stone work is getting ready to begin, and window installation is expected to start later this month. 

South Drive is now open, and utility work on Wyatt Lawn is expected to be completed next month.  

Community members will see a dismount zone on South Drive where people riding bicycles, e-scooters, or skateboards must get off their equipment and walk it. 

To ensure everyone's safety, it is critical that members of the community stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings and use caution when they're near any construction site.
