Housing for the Vanderbilt University–New York City Undergraduate Semester Program is provided in dorm-style residences on our NYC campus at the historic General Theological Seminary. Students are required to live on the NYC campus for the duration of the program.

Campus and Neighborhood

Vanderbilt University's NYC campus is at the historic General Theological Seminary. This beautiful campus is part of the thriving West Side of Manhattan in the Chelsea neighborhood and is spread across nearly a full city block, consisting of 13 buildings and approximately 150,000 square feet. The historic campus is within walking distance of major employers like Google and Meta, various arts institutions, and destinations like The High Line, Chelsea Piers and Chelsea Market.

Housing Details

Housing for the Vanderbilt University–New York City Undergraduate Semester Program is provided in dorm-style residences on the Vanderbilt University's NYC campus. Students are required to live in Vanderbilt University–New York City housing for the duration of the program.

Students will be housed across six residence halls on the east side of campus. Standard housing is available as double rooms for two students each. A very limited number of single rooms are available. Community bathrooms shared by three to four students are outside of the rooms with hallway access. Leading up to the inaugural fall 2026 cohort, the Vanderbilt University–New York City team will be renovating and updating the existing dorms to outfit them with modern amenities while preserving their historic charm.

Meals

A formal meal plan is not included in the program. On campus, students will have access to communal kitchens in each residence hall lounge for cooking and storing food, grab-and-go options available for purchase at the café in Keller Library, and special dinners throughout the semester. Off campus, the Chelsea neighborhood surrounding Vanderbilt's campus is home to a wide variety of culinary options, and students are encouraged to explore independently and through a Chelsea-area “dine-around” program. More information will be shared with students who are selected to participate in the Vanderbilt University–New York City undergraduate semester program.
