Engineering Management Undergraduate Semester Program

Spend a semester at Vanderbilt’s NYC campus combining academic study with hands-on learning. Vanderbilt’s School of Engineering offers a 15-credit immersive program for undergraduates combining an experiential internship and coursework in engineering management while living at Vanderbilt’s NYC campus. These courses, plus one prerequisite course, fulfill the requirements of the Engineering Management minor.

Curriculum and Internship Breakdown

Students in the Engineering Management at Vanderbilt University–New York City will take three courses as well as participate in an experiential internship for credit, working approximately 24 hours per week with industry partners in NYC to help solve real-world problems. When combined with necessary pre-requisite courses, the courses students take in the Engineering Management program at Vanderbilt University–New York City will complete the Engineering Management minor.

  • Prerequisite Courses

    Before participating in the Engineering Management program at Vanderbilt University–New York City, students must complete the following courses:

    • ENGM 2210: Technology Strategy (3 credit hours)
    • ES 2700: Engineering Career Development (1 credit hour)
  • ES-NYC 3885: Structured Internship

    As part of the School of Engineering's NYC program, students must participate in a six-credit academic internship in NYC. This internship will allow students to use the skills they’ve learned through their engineering coursework to solve real-world problems for industry partners. Students secure their own internship directly or with assistance from Vanderbilt’s Career Center. Learn more about the general application and internship process here. Three credit hours of this course fulfill the elective requirement for the Engineering Management minor.

  • ENGM-NYC 2440: Applied Behavioral Science

    This three-credit course focuses on leadership styles, power, team building, conflict resolution, management resolution and interviewing techniques.

  • ENGM-NYC 3700: Program and Project Management

    This three-credit course educates students on scheduling, cost estimation/predictions, network analysis, optimization, resource/load leveling, risk/mitigation, quality/testing and managing international projects. Course provides validated preparation for the Project Management Institute CAPM certification, a valuable professional credential.

  • ENGM-NYC 3000: Enterprise System Design

    This three-credit course explores the design of complex enterprise systems and processes including enterprise requirements analysis, process-mapping, modeling, performance measurement, benchmarking, solution development and change management.
