This update outlines anticipated construction activity on Vanderbilt’s Chelsea campus from Monday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 25.
Key community impacts this week
Monday, Jan. 19 to Wednesday, Jan. 21:
- The 440 W. 21st St. entrance to campus will be closed. Those accessing campus will need to use the 20th Street entrance, located at 429 W. 20th St. A security officer will be on site to help facilitate access.
- Moderate noise is expected during working hours, similar to the operation of heavy machinery.
- Construction activity may require the use of one parking spot on 21st Street.
Expected construction activity
- Street storage is anticipated to be placed mid-block on West 21st Street later this month.
- Scaffolding and sidewalk bridge installation spanning the entirety of the Vanderbilt buildings on 21st Street is expected to be completed this week.
- Monday, Jan. 19 to Wednesday, Jan. 21, crews are installing a canopy over the 21st Street campus entrance. During this time, the 21st Street entrance will be closed; the 20th Street entrance will remain open with a security officer on site to support access. This installation requires heavy beams to be transported to campus with the use of a crane truck, similar to the equipment used on campus last week, and may result in moderate noise levels during work hours. If necessary, the crew may utilize a parking spot on 21st Street.
- Tuesday, Jan. 20, scaffolding installation is expected to begin on the interior of The Close, spanning Lorillard, White, Edson and Seabury.
You may notice
- Ongoing worker presence
- Minimal to moderate noise during working hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays); at most, the moderate noise levels are comparable to heavy machinery. On Monday, Jan. 19, crews have been requested to limit moderate-noise activities before 8 a.m.; Monday remains a working holiday for construction crews.
- Visual signs of construction on and around campus will continue, including new scaffolding, sidewalk bridges, construction fencing and barriers, etc.
