The MIHOW Model

MIHOW Affiliation & Recognition Pathway

MIHOW offers a clear, progressive pathway for organizations implementing the MIHOW Model. This structure supports new programs as they build capacity, while recognizing sites that demonstrate strong alignment and long-term fidelity to MIHOW core principles.

MIHOW Affiliation

MIHOW Affiliation is the entry point for organizations implementing the MIHOW Model. Affiliated sites are authorized to use the MIHOW name and curriculum while receiving the support needed to establish high-quality, consistent services.

Affiliation is designed to help programs build infrastructure, train staff, and align operations with MIHOW Standards of Practice.

Affiliated programs receive:

  • Research-based MIHOW curriculum and implementation resources
  • Networking and peer learning with other MIHOW sites
  • Invitation to annual MIHOW Conference

Affiliate Recognition (Optional)

Affiliate Recognition is an optional designation that demonstrates a site is delivering MIHOW with fidelity and in alignment with its core principles. This recognition signals to funders, partners, and communities that a program has met defined quality benchmarks.

Affiliate Recognition is awarded for five years, with an annual attestation required to remain in good standing.

How to Earn Affiliate Recognition

To qualify, a site must:

  • Pay the MIHOW affiliation fee
  • Maintain an active MIHOW license (annual license fee applies)
  • Have trained site leaders and outreach workers using MIHOW-approved materials
  • Participate in Peer Learning Network calls (minimum attendance required)
  • Complete a site visit focused on verification of affiliation status
  • Submit a detailed self-appraisal demonstrating fidelity to MIHOW standards

How to Maintain Affiliate Recognition

After the first year, recognized affiliates must:

  • Maintain an active MIHOW license
  • Submit an annual Self-Appraisal Fidelity Attestation
  • Participate in at least six Peer Learning Network sessions each year
  • Pay the Affiliate Renewal Fee ($350 annually)

Commitment to Excellence MIHOW Program (CEMAP©)

The Commitment to Excellence MIHOW Program (CEMAP©) represents the highest level of MIHOW recognition. CEMAP© verifies sustained fidelity to the MIHOW Model and full alignment with MIHOW Standards of Practice.

CEMAP© recognition should be achieved within three years of becoming a MIHOW-affiliated program and is renewed every five years. Mid-cycle reviews support continuous quality improvement and ongoing alignment with standards.

About CEMAP©

Established in 2003, CEMAP© was developed to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity in MIHOW implementation across sites.
