CASA Rio de Janeiro will not be offered in the Fall of 2023.
This program, offered by the Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA), allows novice to advanced Portuguese students the opportunity to study at Brazil’s premier private university, the Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC Rio), located in Rio de Janeiro. The program offers both and English and Portuguese tracks for different levels of language proficiency. A wide range of academic subjects are available, and students will also have the opportunity to advance their skill in Portuguese through coursework, daily practice with native speakers in a homestay, and travel. Students will have multiple excursions and day-trips, including a week-long trip to the state of Bahia focused on Afro-Brazilian history and culture.
Special Immersive Opportunities
Opportunities for internships and volunteer work, as well as certain types of research, are available. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a research project focused on the topic of Historical Memory.
