Falk and Schmandt Added to
All-SEC First Team 5/6/03
Commodores Set to Open Play at NCAA Tournament
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt’s No. 2 doubles team
of junior Kelly Schmandt (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and sophomore
Audra Falk (Cincinnati, Ohio) were named to the All-Southeastern
Conference First Team on Tuesday. Schmandt and Falk were not
acknowledged at the SEC Tournament banquet in April, but after
further review the Vanderbilt doubles tandem was awarded first-team
honors.
Schmandt and Falk have had an outstanding season for head
coach Geoff Macdonald. They are 21-6 overall for the 2002-03
year, which includes an 18-4 dual-match record. One of their
highlights from the year was an 8-3 win over Florida’s
Julia Scaringe and Alexis Gordon back on March 16. The Commodores
went on to defeat the top-ranked Gators for the first time
in 28 attempts.
Schmandt, Falk and the rest of the Commodores will return
to action at 2 p.m. Friday against Boston University in the
opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt will be the
host site for the first and second rounds, which will also
showcase Notre Dame and Missouri.
