Falk and Schellhas Earn Individual Titles at June Stewart
Invitational 10/20/02
The Vanderbilt women's tennis team concluded its stint at
the June Stewart Invitational on Sunday at the Brownlee O.
Currey Tennis Center. The Commodores concluded with two flight
winners and one consolation winner in singles and one finalist
in doubles.
The Commodores were led by sophomore Audra Falk and freshman
Ashley Schellhas, who both won their respective flights. Falk
defeated Catherine Gunn of Georgia Tech in Flight 3 action,
6-3, 6-4. Schellhas defeated Ana Stiglic of Clemson in Flight
4 action, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Kori Scott defeated Katie Anson
of Kentucky in the fifth-place match of Flight 4 singles,
as she won 6-7 (4), 6-0, (10-8).
Senior Sarah Riske was not able to compete in the Flight 1
championship match, as she came down with a virus forcing
her to default. Riske and junior Aleke Tsoubanos, who entered
the weekend ranked No. 1 nationally in doubles, fell to No.
22-ranked Sarah Witten and Nathalie Roels of Kentucky, 8-1.
The Commodores are back in action Friday-Sunday, November
8-10, at the Southeastern Conference Flight Championships
in Atlanta, Ga.
