Birmingham Native Earns Third Award From 2002 Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Jennifer Lewis (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) notched her third honor from the 2002 women’s soccer season, as she was named to the SoccerBuzz All-Central Region Second Team. Lewis had already been named first team All-Southeastern Conference and third team All-Central Region by the National Collegiate Coaches Association of America.

She was one of four Vanderbilt players to start and play in all 16 games. Lewis recorded two goals and one assist during the season and was third on the team with 41 shots. Over her first three seasons, she has tallied eight goals and six assists while being one of the key components to the Vanderbilt midfield.

One of Lewis’ highlights this season came against then No. 21-ranked Tennessee, who eventually won the SEC regular season and tournament championships, back on October 11. Less than six minutes into the contest, Lewis scored from around 30 yards out to give the Commodores the lead - one they would not relinquish. The win also gave Vanderbilt a victory over a ranked opponent for the eighth-consecutive season.

Lewis and Ole Miss freshman forward Kelly Renie were the only two players from the SEC to be placed on the SoccerBuzz Central All-Central Region Second Team.

Lewis and the rest of her teammates will play the first of their four spring games on March 15 when they take on Alabama-Birmingham in Birmingham. All four of Vanderbilt’s spring games will be on the road.
