Commodore
WomenÕs Soccer Downed by SMU 3-2
The
Vanderbilt womens soccer team lost their fourth one-goal
game of the season, falling 3-2 to Southern Methodist on Sunday
at the Vanderbilt Soccer Field.
We have to find a way to win a game right now,
commented Vanderbilt head coach Ronnie Hill. We have
to play harder or train harder or do something differently
because right we arent getting it done right now.
The Commodores (1-4) took an early 1-0 lead when Lizzy Johnson
(Scotts Valley, Calif.) fired a loose ball in the box into
the net at the 10:17 mark. Southern Methodist (5-1) rallied
later in the half with three goals in an eight minute span
to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Vanderbilt rallied late
in the contest as Kelly Kulsruds (Carmel, Ind.) first
career goal brought the Commodores within one with under ten
minutes to play, but couldnt tally the tying score.
Goalkeeper Lauren Whitt (Birmingham, Ala.) made three saves
for the Commodores as Erin McLeod made eight for the Lady
Mustangs to hold on for the victory. Overall, the Commodores
outshot the Lady Mustangs 12-10.
History has shown that Vanderbilt-SMU has been an incredible
rivalry and it was again today, stated SMU coach George
VanLinder. Both teams were coming off a loss and really
wanted a win. It is a shame someone had to come away with
a loss today.
Vanderbilt will look to pick up their second win of the season
on Wednesday as they travel to Memphis for a 7:00 kickoff
with the host Tigers.
