Assistant coach Jarett Smith enters his second season with
the Commodores and his fourth year assisting head coach Ronnie
Coveleskie Hill.
Smith came to Vanderbilt before last season after three years
of college coaching at his alma mater, the College of Charleston.
From 1998-2000, he was an assistant coach with the Cougar
womens soccer program, the past two years assisting
Hill.
In addition to his work at the College of Charleston, Smith
has six years of experience coaching youth soccer teams with
the Mt. Pleasant Soccer in the Charleston suburb of Mt. Pleasant,
S.C. His Under-13 and Under-14 squads, the Mt. Pleasant Impulse,
were state finalist in 2000 and 2001. He has been an assistant
coach for the South Carolina Olympic Development Program.
In the summer of 2001, Smith took the Under-15 girls team
from Mt. Pleasant to Norway to compete in an international
tournament.
As a player, Smith was a three-year letterwinner (1991-93)
as a defender, midfielder and forward for the Cougars. A native
of Brazil, Smith played high school soccer in the United States.
He was named the 1990 Maryland Player of the Year after his
senior season at Broadneck Senior High School in Annapolis.
He gained experience as a youth playing in Mexico and Australia.
Smith graduated from the College of Charleston in 1995 with
a degree in Spanish with a concentration in International
Business.
