Vanderbilt Leads the Series: 8-4

The Commodores are 4-1 vs. Arkansas in Memorial
Gym.
Vanderbilt won the last meeting, an 81-78 decision
in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament last season
in the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
VU owns an overall record of 84-133 vs. ranked
teams, including a 44-40 record in Memorial Gym.
Against higher ranked teams, VU is 43-108.
COMMODORE GOLD NUGGETS
Arkansas is the final opponent in the longest homestand
of the season - three games. Vanderbilt hosted
South Carolina last Thursday, Kentucky on Sunday and
Arkansas tonight.
The last time the Commodores started SEC play with an
0-2 record was during the 1988-89 season (Phil
Lee) when Vanderbilt went 0-4 before winning its last
five consecutive league games. VU ended the season
with a 21-8 overall mark and 5-4 league record. The
Commodores lost in first round action in the SEC
Tournament to LSU (73-79) and lost to St. Joseph in
first round action of the NCAA Tournament (68-82).
The Commodores are now 1-2 in SEC action.
Ashley McElhiney set the Vanderbilt school record with
17 assists at Louisville (Jan. 2, 2003). On Dec.
22, 2002, she set the VU career assists record against
UT-Martinwith a then career-high 13 assists.. She
surpassed Ginger Jared who totaled 516 (1993-96, 3.9
pga, 132 games)
The Commodores completed a 5-game- in-10-day stretch
(three on the road) with a win at Duquesne on
Jan. 6. VU played at TCU on Dec. 29; hosted Charlotte
on Dec. 31; played at Louisville on Jan. 2; and
hosted Holy Cross on Jan. 4. VU was 3-2 on the stretch.
VUs 70-53 loss at TCU was the first loss to an
unranked team since Arkansas defeated VU, 67-57, Jan.
31, 2002 in Fayetteville, Ark. It was the first loss
to an unranked non-conference team since Nov. 19, 2000,
when VU fell at Xavier, 64-60, when Melanie Balcomb
was the Muskateers head coach.
The Commodores shot 38.8 percent at TCU, which is the
lowest field goal percentage by a Commodore
team since Feb. 27, 2000. Vanderbilt shot 36.1 percent
(22-61) in a 75-49 loss at Georgia.
Junior forward Jenni Benningfield has led the Commodores
in scoring and rebounding in seven games -
she totals six double-double performances. She scored
a career-high 24 points vs. Kentucky.
